Bio Card for Sam Jacobs

Sam Jacobs

Sam grew up in the rolling hills of San Luis Obispo, CA to the soundtrack of a diverse range of music, including jazz, folk, funk, and rock. Bluegrass has certainly been an important part of Sam's life, but there are few genres of music that he doesn't digest on a regular basis. They all influence his playing style on upright and electric bass to this day.

Sam played saxophone from a young age until he naturally gravitated towards the guitar and then bass during his years in the Jazz program at Cuesta College, renowned for the quality of its music department. Over the years, Sam explored numerous musical projects- from jazz groups in college, to rock bands with friends, to solo projects of his own creation.

Beyond playing bass, Sam has also been a passionate audio engineer since 2015 with a rich portfolio, collaborating on a multitude of various projects, and specializing in producing live music videos. Since finishing the Recording Arts program at Chico State in 2023, he has engineered and produced recordings for several bands and artists, including mixing and mastering Broken Compass's latest record, "Through These Trees."
